The village of Cramond sits at the mouth of the River Almond, and is one of the most picturesque locations on the north shore of Edinburgh. Sitting between two long strips of beach, the sheltered inlet is home to about 30 yachts and a host of swans. A regular attraction on the tourist trail whilst visiting to Edinburgh, this area was originally home to many mill workers, and the white cottages, so distinctive a feature of the village are commonly seen in postcards and paintings. The old village includes a beautiful old "kirk", and the remains of a Roman garrison with baths. |

My paintings of this very picturesque area can be seen on the following pages. |

The view of Cramond which many visitors will remember, taken from a pastel painting entitled "Shades of Cramond". Note the Ferryman's cottage across the River - the shortest ferry crossing in the United Kingdom! |
